Leaving the hospital can be both a blessing and can cause some anxiety. Honestly, most of the anxiety is just the fear of the unknown.  In the US healthcare system, the medical team works really hard to make sure this is as smooth a transition as possible. Now, that being said, will it be completely seamless? Probably not. But rest assured, you will have plenty of resources to reach out to should you run into a problem. 

So, hopefully, now you are a little less anxious about this process and we can jump into the exciting stuff. First…….YOU ARE GOING HOME!!!!!! Hooray! Boom shackalaka…..(ok, not that I am really a boom shackalaka type……but I digress……) The bottom line is this is super exciting! It means you are finally ready to start piecing your life back together. And embark on the journey of discovering a new normal. This is not a bad thing. It is a great thing. First, you survived (which is a miracle in itself).  Second, you thrived under extremely difficult circumstances and a seemingly unplanned health crisis. And third, you also survived months of hospital food (kidding, of course). 

How to return home safely after a stroke

Step One

You just stepped in the door. What now? Step one is……..relax. No seriously. Take a deep breath and possibly a nap. Just the process of getting discharged from the hospital can zap you of life. To be honest, I get tired just watching the process. 

Step Two

Once you have had a little time to relax and maybe a nice “non hospital” meal, do a “dry run through”. What I mean by this, is practice
