Do you ever feel so tired, you don’t even want to get out of bed? If so, you wouldn’t be alone. There is a really good reason for this.  Fatigue is an extremely common problem after a hospitalization.  And sometimes, it has nothing to do with the reason you were admitted to the hospital in the first place. Studies show that being in the hospital for as little as seven days, wreaks havoc on several body systems.

What happens to the body during a hospitalization?

Studies show that a hospitalziation as little as seven days can result in the following changes in the body:

  • Decreased Muscle Mass
  • Decreased bone density
  • Decreased stroke volume – this is the amount of blood the heart pushes out into the body
  • Orthostatic intolerance – this is the ability of the blood vessels to adjust to position changes. For instance, if you go from lying down to sitting up, the blood vessels need to constrict to fight the effects of gravity.

This can have a huge impact on your overall energy level once you leave the hospital and in fact, can continue to cause problems years down the road.

So, what do you do to start reversing this? ………..Move……

In this video, I do a deep dive on how to move and restore your fitness at every stage of the rehab process. Whether you only spend a couple of hours out of bed each day, or you get out of bed but spend most of your time sitting, you will want to watch this one.
