Paul Tan posted an update Hi Dr. Tara,

As you might recall, I had an ischemic stroke affecting my right side on Aug 3, 2026. Since then, it seems that I have made an amazing recovery compared to other patients. I able to use the chopsticks well again (not 100%, but functional enough). My typing now feels natural, and I no longer have to concentrate on typing (still a bit slower, but no longer takes effort). My speech is still requiring concentration, but needing it less and less. I don\'t feel any \"neuro\" fatigue the way I felt the first week after the stroke.

Today my OT discharged me after only seeing me twice. My PT discharged me after seeing me only once. My Speech Therapist is going to discharge me after my 2nd appointment with her.

I know you mentioned that you do favor the ketogenic diet, well, I think that\'s what caused my fast recovery. That and my attitude to get back to normal. I don\'t know if you\'ve read the books Brain Energy, by Christopher M. Palmer, MD, or Change Your Diet, Change Your Mind, by Georgia Ede, MD., or the book Ketogenic, The science of therapeutic carbohydrate restriction in human health, edited by nutrition network. The all provide evidence of the helpfulness of a ketogenic diet for brain recovery.

I eat a carnivore diet. I went strict carnivore, one meal a day since my stroke. That\'s why I refused to be checked into the hospital. I know they would check my blood glucose and freak out. (they freaked out when my wife was in the hospital for a few days). I maintain a GKI (glucose ketone index) of under 2.0 as measured by a Keto-Mojo meter every morning. My ketones have been between 2.0 and 4.5 everyday. My glucose is regularly under 5.1 (100 in US units).

It\'s just something you might want to suggest to patients even though you believe it is wrong to be without fruits or vegetables (it\'s not, I\'ve been eating that way for over 3 years. Many other people have been eating that way for over 5 or 10 years).

I know you want to help people recover, (you mentioned you recommended acupuncture today because an evidence based podiatrist believed in it, so I know you are willing to look at the evidence), so please do consider adding carnivore diet and measuring the ketones and glucose daily to you list of tools.

I\'m right handed. Prestroke I was able to do 8 reps to failure. Now I can only do 3 reps. My left arm is still able to do the usual 5 reps (was always weaker than my right). Now I know there is no way my right arm muscles got weaker, so I am curious why this happens.

I want to get more guidance about exercises but I don’t see anything that mentions central cord injury? I know some of them are the same for stroke patients, but I’m just having problems using the video library, trying to choose the right exercises? Can you help me with this? I am weak and upper extremities, but most bothersome is leg weakness that seems worse on right. Currently use a cane, but I know I could get to the point where I used no device!

So if my arm not going above my head is not spasticity, because ‘supine’ I can do it very well up and down.
How do I address the ‘dyskinesia? ‘ as I can’t achieve the scapular flick to enable overhead movement. Hope this makes sense. Thanks

David Frawley posted an update Tara, what do you think of Botox, actually Dysport?

I have had 2 rounds for mostly my arm. You need a doctor, called a Physiatrist, never heard of one before my stroke.
It’s completely blocked my tone for a brief window to stretch out my hand and arm. I don’t think it’s for everyone but it can work. Tara you didn’t seem a fan at the Webinar?
My tone in my pecs and flexors was really bad. Everything pulling forward, zero balance with the extensors. The doctor has a machine that taps into where the muscle is most active.

For the window you stretch as much as you can?

Thanks

Carol Wentz posted an update Hey Tara!
Small stroke on Dec 5th. Weakness in L arm. Did a couple weeks of therapy and then have followed you. I have been doing some stretching, etc. I have been able to lift arm over my head… stretch.. overhead and side to side. Out to the side also… been doing this everyday…
Elbow is good… hand is much improved,.. been doing exercises for it. Can open close now… pick up items… been doing poker chips pick up.,, have increased that from 4 to 12… doing change also (dimes and quarters, etc)
I have to admit; I’ve looked at alot of the videos; but have not followed as a program. (Shame on me) I’m ready to do this… I think in my haste; I have injured my shoulder… I now cannot stretch it over my head or side due to pain.., (front part of shoulder)… I feel like I’ve strained something.., cause I’ve been doing alot of different things.., (probably lifted or pulled in something I should not have; because these muscles were not strong enough… SOOO… what do you suggest I do now… Thank you so much… I’m so very thankful of where I am at this stage; but so ready yo really get better and stronger… your program is amazing and I see that many people have had great success. Please help a stubborn 67 year old female that loves the outdoors; planting flowers, etc get back to full potential. (BTW; I get outside anytime I can; lots of sunshine; I eat very clean, lots of protein, etc)

Alice Dann posted an update I am a stroke survivor. At the age of 79 I was found passed out by my husband, flown in helicopter to a larger hospital for surgery to open the clot. Spend 4 weeks is hospital for recovery and rehab following paralysis in my right side and with speech problems. That was 2 years ago. I was active before the stroke which I think helped me. Recovery has been long and I have been following your suggestions. One of the things that helped me was the fact I refused the cane when my pt offered me; he said fine and I never used it. I now can walk outside about a mile a day, the right hand is somewhat compromised but I managed to whisk an egg with it this week. My cursive writing is compromised but I can print and use my left hand on my I pad. I read 50 books last year. My problem is that I get fatigued in the evening and have pain in my back/ shoulders which I think is a result of fatigue. Any suggestions on that? My Doctor offered me medication but that is not the answer I looking for. Life is good!

Chad Hankins posted an update Hi!

60 days ago I woke up in the hospital with full right-side paralysis at 35, an ischemic stroke caused by an autoimmune flare up. Unfortunately, I have no insurance so outpatient therapy was not covered, but I was active prior to my stroke and have a small home gym, these videos have been a lifeline and now I\'m walking
(with an AFO, but no cane - severe foot drop), driving, and independent.

My biggest issues, it seems, are that my arm is very heavy almost always. I attribute this to spasticity in my bicep and shoulder, maybe. Closed chain exercises help temporarily, and I stretch often throughout the day.

In addition, I have a lot of spasticity/shakiness in my lower leg as I step forward - and my knee goes into hyperextension as I transition my weight forward, leading to a very stiff walk.. Are there any additional exercises aside sit-to-stands and hip flexor stuff that you\'d recommend to help my gait?

Your brain isn’t rewiring when a muscle feels tired — it rewires when you feel mentally challenged. That’s how you know you’re practicing a new pattern instead of repeating an old one. Slower, intentional reps always win

David Frawley posted an update Running update, I’m NOT running yet. That was my goal approx ago.

I’m a community ambulator, in 6 min walk. I’m not out of breath. I don’t circumduct or vault etc

But my right leg is just slower than my left leg. I think I could go faster but gait would be awful. I don’t use an ago, XTERN retired. I do use a toe up ankle brace. Gait is ok. My foot still goes an out like penguin? That’s ankle tendons are too lose?
